Waste Re-Use Challenge 2020
Supported by RIBA London our RIBA Re-Fabricate Project ran from February to July 2020. The premise of the programme was to provide a platform for young design professionals to channel their creative energy into generating new solutions that minimise waste in construction. It attracted hundreds of applicants and saw six fantastic teams develop commercially viable products focused on the waste reuse of a specific material type out of timber, plastic, glass, aggregates and textiles. We ran a series of design, making and enterprise workshops throughout the 6-month programme to help teams consolidate comprehensive proposals which were presented at a project showcase at the end of the programme. Some teams have continued to develop their ideas to date, with the aim to make their products and services commercially available.
As a result of this project, Re-Fabricate were included in the RIBAJ Rising Stars 2020 Cohort and have been invited to present several talks on the programme around the country.
